Where Do the Returns to Schooling Come From? Educational Transitions and Labor Market Payoffs
A new framework for studying educational effects on earnings suggests that the value of a high school degree is primarily from its direct labor market returns, with minimal mediation via college and graduate school due to low progression rates through these stages.
